Eventually, the route to the famous viewpoints Gokyo-Ri and Chola Pass is a beauty of life that meets at Lobuche via the glacial route, then leads you to Gorakshep, Everest Base Camp, and Kalapatthar.

Another very famous viewpoint just behind Mount Pumori and the lap of the high Himalayas, Kalapatthar provides a panoramic view of the Himalayan peaks Mt Everest and Lhotse, as well as the Khumbu Icefall, and boasts a stunning sunrise from the high altitude of 5556 meters above sea level. Try popular Nepali dishes like lentils, rice, curries, dumplings, noodles, spaghetti, and more. We highly recommend eating fresh vegetables and drinking beverages such as green tea, lemon tea, hot lemon, ginger tea, and garlic soup, especially at high altitudes. While non-vegetarian options are available during the Trek, we suggest avoiding them for hygiene reasons. It's also best to steer clear of dairy, cheese, alcohol, caffeine, and hot chocolate. Drinking water during the Everest Gokyo -Ri Trekking:

Nepal is the second country in the world in terms of water sources after Brazil. According to the Nepalese government, only 27% of people here have access to clean drinking water. You can buy mineral water in teahouses, but it is expensive; in some trekking areas, local people prefer glass bottles. So, there are some safe drinking water stations where you can refill your bottle. However, we recommend carrying Steripen, iodine drops, water purification tablets for safe drinking, and refillable water bottles for boiled or filtered water. We strongly advise against drinking from taps, wells, and rivers in trekking areas. However, in all areas of the city, Mineral water is available at a reasonable cost.

Extra Personal Expenses:

Your Trip covers most expenses during the Trek; you'll need to pay for extra accommodations and meals in Kathmandu, souvenirs, and beverages. We estimate about USD 15-25 per trekking day for miscellaneous expenses. However, personal expenses depend on your Income, habits, and style.

Toilet Facilities during the Everest Gokyo -Ri Trekking:

Most teahouses have Western-style flush toilets during mountain treks, especially at lower elevations. But as you go higher, you'll find simple squat toilets along the trails and in teahouses at higher altitudes. These toilets usually have water and toilet paper, but it's a good idea to bring your own just in case. You can also use restrooms at nearby teahouses or find a private spot along the trekking routes.

Internet Connectivity during the Everest Gokyo -Ri Trekking:

While trekking in Nepal's Himalayan region, it's also a good idea to connect with your family and friends. You can find internet access at teahouses and lodges, but it might be an extra cost. The signal might be weak because of the remote location. You can also get internet access using a local SIM card and data packages available at Kathmandu airport or nearby shops in Thamel and Pokhara. You'll need a passport-sized photo and a copy of your passport to get a SIM card. It's a good idea to compare prices and data packages from telecom companies like Ncell and Nepal Telecom before buying. Knowing about teahouse connectivity. Our guide will suggest connections for you.

Electricity voltage and plugs:

However, 95 % of Nepali people have access to electricity as of May 29, 2023. Most popular trekking routes, teahouses, and lodges have electricity. However, some isolated and solo trekking tea houses in the jungle don't have electricity; most tea houses let travellers charge their devices for a small fee. The average electrical voltage in Nepal is 230 volts, with plug types like Type C, Type D, and Type M. Travellers should bring a suitable adapter and, if needed, a voltage converter for their electronic devices.

Communication during the Everest Gokyo -Ri Trekking:

The guest houses in the trekking regions have internet access. You could buy a SIM card at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu and in Namche. However, the signal may need to be more assertive at high altitudes. Our office keeps in touch with all trekking teams via the trek guide at least once daily to ensure everything goes according to plan.

Trip Extension:

Suppose you have extra days in Nepal after the Trek. In that case, we can arrange a tour, an overnight stay at Nagarkot Balthali or another place around Kathmandu and Chitwan, jungle safari, paragliding, rafting, canyoning, or other treks. Do not hesitate to inform us. We will create the best for you.

Trek Difficulty:

The Everest Gokyo-Ri Trek offers a moderate yet challenging and enriching adventure. Your enjoyment of the trip will largely depend on your level of fitness. We recommend building stamina at least two weeks before the Trek. Activities include jogging, running, swimming, or taking long hikes for the journey ahead.

This Trek is achievable even if you're a beginner, but you must maintain a reasonable fitness level. Prior trekking experience can be advantageous, though it is optional. All you need is the readiness to hike steadily for 4-8 hours and navigate tricky terrain.

Suppose trekkers have pre-existing medical conditions, such as lung or heart diseases. In that case, they are advised to consult their physician before booking the Trek to ensure their safety and well-being throughout the journey.

Trip Itinerary

Day 1 : Arrival in Kathmandu

Your trip day starts today when you arrive to Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Upon your arrival, you will be received by our representative at the airport. He will be carrying a signboard with our company’s name on it. Then you will be transferred to the tour hotel and checked in. A trip briefing will follow later today and the time will be notified to you by the representative who picks you up from the airport. We will come to meet and brief you about the trip at the fixed time. Until then just relax or explore a bit of surrounding.

Day 2 : Kathmandu – Lukla flight – Lukla to Phakding

Early in the morning, fly from Kathmandu to Lukla, the gateway to the Everest Base Camp Trek. During the off-season, flights usually operate directly from Kathmandu and take around 35 minutes.

During the peak trekking seasons of March, April, May, September, October, and November, flights to Lukla may operate from Manthali Airport (Ramechhap) due to increased air traffic at Kathmandu Airport. Manthali is about 131 km from Kathmandu and takes approximately 4–6 hours by road. An early-morning shared tourist vehicle takes you to Manthali. After reaching Manthali, take a scenic 15–18-minute flight to Lukla.

After landing at Tenzing-Hillary Airport, enjoy breakfast and prepare for your first day trek. The four-hour trek begins gently, descending from Lukla through picturesque Sherpa villages, including Chheplung (2,660m), Thado Koshi (2,580m), and Ghat (2,530m). You'll walk alongside the sparkling Dudh Koshi River, cross suspension bridges, and admire prayer wheels and mani walls reflecting local Buddhist culture. After around four hours of easy walking, you'll reach Phakding (2,610m) — a charming riverside village with cosy tea houses — where you'll spend the night, surrounded by serene mountain beauty.

Please note: A helicopter flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, available at an additional cost, can be a convenient alternative when regular flights or the Manthali road journey are affected by weather or operational conditions. The heli cost will be 450 per person, shared.

.

Day 3 : Phakding – Namche

After taking breakfast at the tea house, you start the trek to astounding Sherpa town of Namche today. The walk today is mostly uphill making you cover a good distance of elevation. You will come across lots of yaks, Buddhist prayer flags, and many trekking adventurers like you and several other beautiful things. Once you arrive at Namche, you praise the charm of the town and the Himalayan view from there more. Check into a hotel and relax.

Day 4 : Acclimatization Day at Namche/Hike up to Everest view 3890 m

Already at the elevation of 3440 meters above sea level, you need to acclimatize with the high altitude atmosphere. Thus it is an extra day at Namche to acclimatize doing some uphill side hikes. Once you return back to Namche from the hike, you will have some time to explore the charming town of Namche as well.

Day 5 : Namche – Dole

After breakfast in Namche Bazaar, begin your trek to Dole (4,200 m) along the scenic Gokyo Valley trail. The route passes through the Sherpa villages of Sanasa and Kenjoma, with stunning views of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku.

At Kenjoma, the trail divides, with one route continuing toward Everest Base Camp and the other leading to the Gokyo Lakes. Follow the Gokyo route uphill to Mong La (Mong Danda), a beautiful ridge-top village offering panoramic Himalayan views.

From Mong La, descend through peaceful rhododendron and pine forests to Phortse Thanga near the Dudh Koshi river, then continue uphill toward Dole. Along the way, you may see Himalayan thar, musk deer, pheasants, and mountain birds. Buddhist monasteries and traditional Sherpa villages add cultural charm to the journey. After 5–6 hours of trekking, arrive at Dole and enjoy the peaceful mountain surroundings.

Day 6 : Doley – Machhermo

After breakfast in Dole (4,200 m), continue your Gokyo Valley Trek toward Machhermo (4,470 m). The trail gradually climbs through juniper and rhododendron forests, open yak pastures, and rocky mountain terrain. Enjoy views of Kangtega and surrounding Himalayan peaks along the route.

Following the small Sherpa settlements of Lhabarma and Luza, the vegetation becomes thinner and the landscape more rugged with increasing altitude. The trail follows the Dudh Koshi Valley, crossing a small stream before continuing toward the Ngozumpa Glacier and its terminal moraine. You may spot Himalayan thar, musk deer, marmots, and mountain birds along the trail.

After around 4 hours of trekking, reach Machhermo, a peaceful mountain village surrounded by spectacular Himalayan scenery. Enjoy the afternoon exploring the village, taking in the mountain views, and relaxing at your teahouse at Machhermo.

Day 7 : Machhermo – Gokyo Lake

After breakfast in Machhermo (4,470 m), continue your trek into the beautiful Gokyo Valley toward the famous Gokyo Lakes. The trail begins with a gradual climb to a ridge, then descends toward the river, passing through the small Buddhist settlement of Phangga.

From Phangga, the trail follows the rocky moraine of Nepal's largest glacier, the Ngozumpa Glacier. As you continue across the glacial landscape, you reach the first lake, Longpongo Tsho, followed by the beautiful Taboche Tsho. The trail then continues toward Gokyo Tsho (Dudh Koshi), the third and largest lake in the Gokyo Lakes system.

After reaching Gokyo Village (4,790 m), enjoy spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. Spend the night at a local teahouse and relax in this peaceful Himalayan settlement.

Day 8 : Assend Gokyo Ri (5360 m) for the stunning view, back to Gokyo Village and trek continuous -Thangnak

Day 9 : Thangnak - Chola pass (5420 m) Dzongla

Begin the trek around 4:00 to 5:00 AM from Thangnak by crossing the challenging Cho La Pass (5,420 m) before the sun rises; the trail starts with a short descent, then a gradual climb through rugged mountain terrain and glacial moraines.

The route steepens as you near the pass, and snow or ice can make the crossing more difficult. It is important to walk with care and maintain a steady pace at this high altitude. After having climbed for several hours, you reach the top of Cho La Pass, where you are given magnificent views of Mt. Cholatse, Ama Dablam, Lobuche and the other Himalayan peaks.

After enjoying the mountain scenery, go down carefully through the steep, rocky terrain to Dzongla. The descent may be difficult, particularly if there is snow and ice. Arrive in Dzongla around midday, then rest at a simple teahouse.

Day 10 : Dzongla – Labuche

As you continue toward Lobuche, the landscape becomes increasingly rugged and barren. The peaceful surroundings and dramatic Himalayan scenery make this section of the Everest Base Camp Trek via Gokyo and Cho La Pass memorable.
