Frequently Asked Questions

This 17-day trek combines two incredible highlights of the Annapurna region: the off-the-beaten-path Khopra trek, known for its spectacular panoramic views and serene alpine lake (Khopra Lake or Khairlake), and the classic Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) trek, famous for its breathtaking mountain scenery. Unlike the busier ABC routes, the Khopra trek offers tranquility, cultural immersion, and stunning viewpoints like Khopra Danda, giving trekkers an intimate Himalayan experience. Asiana Treks & Tours prides itself on delivering both adventure and authenticity with well-planned routes and expert guidance.

Starting in Kathmandu, the trek includes a drive to Pokhara and then to the trailhead at Nayapul. From here, the route progresses through charming villages such as Tikhedhunga, Ghorepani, and Tadapani, before diverting towards Khopra and Khairlake. You’ll spend time exploring the lake area and enjoying spectacular sunrise and sunset views from Khopra Danda. The trek then continues toward Annapurna Base Camp via Chomrong and Himalaya, allowing you to witness some of the highest peaks in the world up close. The return journey descends through the beautiful Gurung villages before heading back to Pokhara and Kathmandu.

This trek is categorized as moderate to challenging due to its length and elevation gain. Daily walking can range between 5 to 8 hours with steep ascents, especially near Khopra and Annapurna Base Camp. A reasonable level of fitness, stamina, and some previous trekking experience are recommended. Asiana Treks & Tours ensures adequate acclimatization days to minimize altitude sickness risks and provides experienced guides who support trekkers throughout the journey.

Highlights include panoramic mountain vistas from Khopra Danda overlooking the Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, and Machhapuchhre ranges; the serene and pristine Khopra Lake (Khairlake); the lively mountain culture in Gurung villages; and the iconic Annapurna Base Camp itself, nestled at 4,130 meters beneath towering snow-capped peaks. The trek offers a blend of natural beauty, cultural encounters, and a chance to experience less touristy trails alongside the classic Annapurna highlights.

Accommodation during the trek consists mainly of traditional teahouses and lodges, which provide basic but clean rooms, comfortable beds, and hot showers where available. Meals include Nepali staples such as dal bhat (lentils and rice), vegetable curries, noodles, soups, and occasional continental options. Snacks and warm drinks like tea and coffee are widely available. In Kathmandu and Pokhara, you’ll stay in comfortable hotels with full amenities. Asiana Treks & Tours carefully selects lodges known for good hygiene and hospitality.

The best trekking seasons are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These periods offer stable weather, clear skies, and pleasant temperatures ideal for trekking and photography. Spring is especially beautiful with rhododendron forests in bloom, while autumn provides crisp mountain views. Winter trekking is possible but colder, and monsoon season (June to August) is generally avoided due to heavy rainfall and slippery trails.

You should bring layered clothing suitable for variable temperatures, a warm down jacket, waterproof gear, sturdy hiking boots, a hat, gloves, and a sleeping bag rated for cold conditions. Trekking poles are recommended to ease steep ascents and descents. Asiana Treks & Tours provides porters who carry heavier loads, so you only need to carry your daypack. A detailed packing list is provided upon booking.

The trek’s itinerary includes gradual altitude gain with rest days at strategic points such as Ghorepani and Chomrong to help acclimatize. Our guides are trained to monitor symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) and will adjust the trekking pace if necessary. If a trekker shows serious symptoms, evacuation plans are in place. Staying hydrated, eating well, and avoiding overexertion also reduce risks.

Yes, travel insurance that covers trekking up to 4,500 meters, emergency evacuation, and medical treatment is mandatory. This safeguards your trip against unexpected incidents. Asiana Treks & Tours can advise on reliable insurance providers tailored to trekking needs.

Our comprehensive package includes airport pickups, hotel accommodation in Kathmandu and Pokhara, all meals during the trek, licensed trekking guides and porters, trekking permits (TIMS and ACAP), transportation between cities and trailheads, and government taxes. Personal expenses, tips, drinks, international flights, and travel insurance are not included. We aim for transparency and quality throughout your journey.

Asiana Treks & Tours is committed to delivering safe, authentic, and memorable trekking experiences. Our local expertise, personalized service, and emphasis on cultural respect and environmental sustainability set us apart. Our guides are experienced, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing Nepal’s wonders with you. We tailor trips to your needs, ensuring every step is enjoyable and rewarding.
