Chandragiri Day Hiking

Chandragiri Day Hiking is a beautiful nature hiking in the lush forest of Chandragiri hill in the southwestern part of Kathmandu valley. The goes to one of the high ridge tops of Kathmandu valley through a beautiful and peaceful forest area. The hiking route has recently come into operation and is getting extremely popular among nature hikers.

The hiking starts after a drive of about 30 minutes from Thamel to Matatirtha village at the foothills of towering Chandragiri. After a short tea break and hiking preparation, you start hiking towards the Chandragiri hilltop. It’s also a long day walk of about 7 hours both ways. The ascent is as steep as it can be but it goes through the woods so it feels cooler even on a hot day. About 3 hours of the walk takes you to Chhap Bhanjyang where you can take short rest.  Later, you continue the walk to the top.

Once you reach the top, it brings you an incredible panorama of the Himalayan range from east to west. A spectacular long-range view of the snow-capped mountain and bustling Kathmandu valley is certainly breathtaking. Chandragiri hill has become a highly sought after destination among the locals as well after a cable car company has started its service from the foothills to its top. The top has good facilities of restaurant, bar and a spectacular viewpoint as well as famous temple Bhaleshwor.  After spending good hours on the top, you start descending via the same route. You have the option of taking the cable car down to the bottom.

Chandragiri day hike has another option also after the drive you could take the cable car to the top then walk through the peaceful green hill east ridge of the hill. after a long walk around 6 hours, we finish our tour in Pharping or Hattiban. if you take a second option cost is double then normal.
